The commemoration of Pope Saint Leo I, doctor of the Church, born in Etruria, who was first a diligent deacon of the City, then, raised to the Chair of Saint Peter, justly merited to be called the Great, whether because his flock was nourished with carefully thought out and prudent words or because orthodox teaching concerning the incarnation of God was affirmed through his legates at the Ecumenical Council of Chalcedon, until at length he rested in the Lord at Rome where on this day he was buried near Saint Peter.
