On the day of 4 December
Of Saint John Damascene, priest and doctor of the Church, honored for his holiness and teaching, who fought vigorously in word and in writing on behalf of the veneration of Sacred Images against the emperor Leo the Isaurian, and, when he became a monk at the monastery of Saint Sabas near Jerusalem, composed sacred hymns and there died. His body was buried on this day.
